Guest Post: First Cruise Experience with Carnival

I worked on cruise ships for a few years to fulfil my love for travelling and to be close to the sea. For this reason, I thought to collect several guest posts “from the passenger point of view” to give my readers different insights regarding companies and experiences. Enjoy!

First Cruise Experience with Carnival

In 2015, I decided to take my first cruise with my husband. I began asking people many different questions, I thought eventually they would tell me to stop asking but they did not. After gathering loads of different information I decided to go with Carnival. When I booked my first cruise I found it amazing that they offered a payment plan. I enjoyed this factor because you do not have to drop so much money at one time. I was set to take a cruise in December of 2015 onboard the Carnival Glory. She would set sail from Miami, Florida and go to 4 different ports. The port list included Half Moon Cay, The Bahamas; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and Grand Turk, Turk and Caicos.

While on board I was surprised at how nice all the staff was. If I did or did not ask for anything they would get me anything they felt I needed. The crew was constantly making sure the ship looked in pristine condition, which I appreciated with the over 2,000 travellers on board. Every night we returned to our room the sheets were pulled back for us and a new towel animal awaited our arrival. When we left for breakfast and came back our room was completely clean and new towels were supplied. During the dinner, the staff would make sure we were always happy with everything we ordered. The staff would also provide shows for us by dancing to a song each night. The last night they sang us a farewell song, I will admit I cried. It was very touching to see the staff so friendly, attentive, kind and helpful. I feel it is very rare that people treat you like that anymore. These qualities were genuine and not just faked.

On the days where we were at sea, there was always something going on. From skin care tutorials to wine tastings to comedy club presentations. There is also plenty to do for children, they have camps and places they can hang out while staff supervises them. I would spend pretty much so my whole day relaxing on the deck where the sun was. To hear the sound of the waves, the sound of the boat moving and the engine it was very relaxing and peaceful. I did not get the Wi-Fi package either time I went on the cruise. This allowed me to escape reality altogether and just be at peace with myself. I learned a lot about myself and the people we met by allowing myself to disconnect.

On days where we were on the islands, I chose to do excursions. The excursions can be rather cheap to pretty pricey. I swam with the stingrays, took a rainforest tour, swam with the dolphins and went horseback riding. All of these were booked through Carnival and the tickets were waiting for me on the day before I was to do the activities. I had the time of my life during my time on board with Carnival. On days where you are on the islands you can choose to just relax by the beach, tour the island or take a cab to anywhere you want to go. Make sure to do your research about the islands before you go.

On board, I never truly knew what I was in for because every day was a new and different experience for me. I made new friends that I’m still frequently in touch with, some of which we are going on a cruise together next December. I tried tons of new foods I would have never tried if it weren’t for the cruise, such as frog legs and snails. I got called up on stage to do a fashion show with some of the workers but did not win to go on and do the rest. Getting called up still made for great memories and I won a ship on a stick, a free drink from the bar and a bottle of champagne. On the final night at dinner, the staff sang us a farewell song, I actually cried during the performance. I was sad to leave because I had such a wonderful time. I never wanted the experience to end. I highly recommend Carnival for your first cruise experience or even your next. Carnival is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure you and your loved ones are happy and are enjoying your vacation.
